Out On A Limb is an improvising music ensemble created by Stuart Maxwell, aka Shadja:.
"The name was taken from Shirley Maclaine's best-selling autobiography, which also became a movie. Her courage in setting out her experiences and her beliefs was a profound inspiration for me.
"I'm a curious sceptic. I've always had a fascination with things spiritual and occult. Shirley Maclaine's story gave me the momentum to go deeper and allow my curiosity to shape my work.
"The first gathering under the name Out On A Limb took place at a London rehearsal room and featured guitars, keyboards, bass and drums. It didn't really work and I shelved the idea for a long time, until the fateful conversation with Laurie that led to The Spirit of the Moment."
In recent years, Shadja has performed again under the name Out On A Limb, working with blues and rock musicians, and is currently recording new solo pieces.
